Day 5 Careers Week
A very special day today - 5 days into our Careers Week and Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenamrie celebrates the 5th Anniversary when on 1st October 2005, IHG took over the management of the hotel. To commemorate the day, we had delicious Nasi Kandar served for lunch and dinner. Later in the afternoon, before the start of the Service Race on napkin folding, we gathered at Casamarie Cafeteria for cake cutting and tea and while we had our cakes and teh tarik, 4 colleagues shared their success stories and how they get to be where they are now.
Happy Anniversary HIKLG.........

Success stories as told by........
Sarvinder Kaur was off but was excited about the opportunity to share her story. She started as an Engineering clerk, left after 2 years and 7 years ago rejoined as a Kitchen Coordinator. In 2005, she saw an opportunity to develop herself and applied for a transfer to the Front Office. Since then, she worked her way upward until her current post of Executive Club Lounge Manager. Sarvinder credited her direct supervisor for inspiring her to be where she is today and looks forward to being a Front Office Manager.
Ku Aziz is an Assistant Manager in In Room Dining. He started with the hotel in 1996. In between he enrolled as a full time student at Taylor's College to upgrade his knowledge in hospitality and continued to work part-time at the hotel. Aziz is grateful and looks up to his Assistant Director of F&B who has given him a lot of support and encouragement in his career.
Norhan started as a part-time Banquet waiter at Mutiara KL (now Crowne Plaza Mutiara KL) with Raj. After 2 years, he was made a waiter and 1 year later to a Captain and then to Assistant Manager (Banquet) and along the way, he was transferred to HIKLG in the same position and now he is in Kites coffeehouse, thus giving him another opportunity to learn and grow. Norhan message was work hard, give it your all and you will achieve your goal.
Meanwhile, Yan joined in 1999 as Assistant Purchasing Manager under Pan Pacific Glenmarie. In 2005, she went through the change in the management of the hotel. Naturally, she was deeply involved in the rebranding activities and learned a lot. Nov 2009, when the hotel went through the Holiday Inn Refresh, she was again part of an important and exciting initiative which provided her Room to grow when she had to ensure materials sourced are brand compliant, within budget and delivered on time.

Day 3 Careers Week
The service challenge today was onion peeling - who can peel the most number of onions within 3 minutes, wins. The F&B team came with a big contingent of supporters and were very boisterous in their show of support for their representatives. All in all, it was a good fight to the end with plenty of tears flowing at the end of the 3 minutes.
Needless to say, the chefs were happy to see so many onions peeled (heard some of them asking if lots more onion peeling contests can be done in future!!!). Rest assured, the onions will be put to good use - it's going in the pot of curry chicken for tomorrow's lunch.
Below some of the happy and teary moments...........
